Microneedling Q & A

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, creates tiny wounds in the skin to trigger your body’s natural healing response.

At Elevate Medical, we use the Skin Pen MD device. During the treatment, very small, thin needles are inserted into your skin and creates microscopic wounds. This technique tricks your body into thinking it needs to heal an injury.

When your healing response activates, it releases new collagen and strengthens its existing fibers. Collagen is an essential protein that makes up the connective tissues in your body. It keeps your skin looking plump and youthful. By releasing new collagen, microneedling helps repair damage and tightens aging skin.

The tiny punctures that microneedling creates also allow your skin to absorb serums, creams, and other skin care solutions more effectively than before. We highly recommend adding growth factors or stem cells during your treatment- while the channels are still open. These products are completely safe and help regenerate healthy tissue quicker and more evenly.

What can Microneedling treat?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive solution for a wide range of aging skin concerns, including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Stretch marks
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Acne scars
  • Skin laxity
  • Sun damage
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Scarring

At Elevate Medical, The esthetician performs a complete evaluation of your skin to determine whether microneedling is the right treatment for you.

What can I expect from Microneedling?

Once you’re comfortable, a topical anesthetic will be applied to numb your skin. This will remain in for a minimum of 45 minutes. Next, utilizing a sterilized needle system, the microneedling device is used to create tiny punctures in your skin.

The entire procedure takes about 60-75 minutes. While microneedling may cause slight discomfort, it should not feel overly painful.

Is there downtime after Microneedling?

Most patients recover from microneedling within 24-48 hours. Your skin may be tight and red with small amounts of blood at the pinpoint marks. Many patients experience dryness and redness that resembles a sunburn.

You should avoid sun exposure and rigorous physical activity while you recover from microneedling- for a period of 2 weeks.

How many Microneedling treatments will I need?

Microneedling is an individualized treatment. At your initial consultation, we can evaluate your skin to gauge how many treatments you need to achieve your cosmetic goals.

In general, most patients need about 3-6 treatments, spaced 3-4 weeks apart, to see visible improvements in the tone and texture of their skin.
